Yamaha RX-Z Racing Spec.

Yamaha RX-Z was originally equipped with a 5-speed transmission with solid front disc brake. The model shared the same platform and chassis as its predecessor, the water-cooled Yamaha RD125. Shortly after the launch, the RX-Z became popular among young motorcyclists especially in Malaysia. A few years later, the engine was upgraded with the installation of a 6-speed transmission, together with newer instrument panel and handlebar switches, as well as a cross-drilled front disc brake rotor.

Since then, the design of the RX-Z remained unchanged until 2004 when the model was facelifted, with the rear lights borrowed from the Yamaha Y125Z. The facelifted RX-Z was equipped with a catalytic converter, sacrificing 1 PS of maximum power (original maximum power: 21 PS). However, the maximum torque remained unchanged but the low-end torque was improved compared with the early models. Some owners of the earlier RX-Z motorcycles may have problems during take-off because the engine tends to stall when an inexperienced rider tries to take off in the first gear. However, the problem was resolved in the facelifted model.

In Malaysia, the RX-Z is one of the motorcycle models often associated with Mat Rempit street racers. As a result, many Malay movies including Remp-It use the RX-Z in their movies.

2-stroke naked bike manufactured by Yamaha Motor Corporation. Debuted in 1987, the RX-Z is very popular in Malaysia and Singapore and enjoys

one of the longest current motorcycle product life in both countries, especially in Malaysia due to the absence of other street bike competitors to date. In 2004, the model was facelifted and a catalytic converter was installed.

Better Use Yamaha Nouvo For Racing

Yamaha engineers specially developed the frame with the same or higher level of rigidity as a moped bike in order to achieve a moped-like ride and good handling performance but also have the same level of comfort as a scooter. Powered by an air-cooled 4-stroke, SOHC 2-valve single-cylinder engine which is characterized by its strong torque in the mid-to low-speed range, the Nouvo is designed and engineered by Yamaha to answer the needs of the ASEAN market in all aspects.

* An easy to use SOHC 115cc engine with CVT - The engine features a 50 x 57.9mm bore x stroke and a compression ratio of 8.8:1 that puts out a max. power output of 6.54kW/8,000rpm and a max. torque of 8.63N-m/7,000 rpm. These performance specs ensure a comfortable ride and lively performance in stop-and-go urban traffic conditions.
* BS type carburetor by Mikuni - The Nouvo uses Mikuni BS25/1 type carburetor to ensure good response, performance and combustion efficiency of the engine.
* 16-inch wheels front and rear - To provide good running performance even on poor road surfaces, this fact is based on extensive studies of conditions of use in the ASEAN region by Yamaha R&D team.
* New-design frame with moped-level rigidity - These design will optimizing the balance of the caster, trail and fork offset so that it can give a great straight-line stability and nimble handling.

After a huge success in the markets, Yamaha Motor Company in Vietnam has release a special edition model for their market in 2007, this model known as Yamaha Nouvo Limited . It features newly design V-shape headlight and newly body stripes but the engine specification is still remain the same with all Nouvo series that available. This model only comes with two colors design - White Wolf and Black Knight.

On February 2008 Yamaha Motor Company in Thailand has launch new Nouvo Elegance for their market, the major changes in this motorcycle are the engine, the engine power are now has increase from 115cc to 135cc (11 horsepower). In addition, the engine block are now made from DiASil (die-cast aluminum cylinder) which is more lightweight while giving it a theorically power-to-weight ratio, to eliminate engine overheating while long journey, liquid-cooled radiator are now installed at the right side of the engine, as a result it giving more performance and reliability to the engine.

Yamaha Vino 125

Yamaha Vino/Vino Classic, replacing the Yamaha Riva 125 (XC125) scooter. Little has changed since the 2004 introduction of the Vino 125 with the exception of color choices. Because of the engine size and top speed, in many US States, the Vino 125 requires a motorcycle license to legally operate. The Vino 125 has a relatively low seat height, making it popular among smaller riders.

The Vino 125 has an air-cooled 124cc single cylinder 4-stroke SOHC engine for propulsion. The engine has a fan for supplemental cooling. A Mikuni BS carburetor handles fuel delivery, and an auto-choke and carburetor heat device are standard. The Vino 125 includes a catalyzed muffler, AIR Injection system, and an evaporative fuel canister to control emissions. Top speed after break-in period ranges from 45-65 MPH on flat land depending on wind and the weight of the operator and cargo according to user reports. A 180mm single disc front brake and a 110mm drum rear brake handle stopping. 3.50x10 tires are standard. Fuel mileage reported from operators ranges from 65 mpg (US) (3.6 L/100 km/78 mpg imp) to 90 mpg (US) (2.6 L/100 km/110 mpg imp). MSRP for a 2008 model is $2649 USD. Black is a new color for 2008, Team Yamaha Blue remains from previous years, and Silver is dropped from the color line up for 2008. Popular modifications for the Vino 125 include Asian Market taillights and the addition of a rear basket or case hinged to allow access to the fuel tank. Other popular modifications include chrome front fender and side trims. The Vino has a very similar counterpart in Thailand, called Fino, which looks almost identical.

Yamaha Majesty

The Speed Scooter

It's a new 250 from Japan with great weather protection, marvelous brakes and tires, and a steering system so high tech as to leave most motorcycles back in the Sixties. Sound like the most radical new design in months? It is.

But it's a scooter.
By Giulio Meccoci, Italian Desk.

This scooter represents the second generation of high-tech scooter production. First generation scooters included the Honda CN250 Space, and the Piaggio Hexagon. A common, critical problem with these two scooters was the front suspension system.

Neither has a classic hydraulic fork, but a double (CN250) and a single (Hexagon) swingarm system. These systems were able to provide quite good comfort during riding. But the trade off was an unsteady feeling, especially when the pavement was not perfect (and when is it ever?). So Yamaha decided to give their new scooter a motorcycle feel by installing a traditional front telescopic fork, along with a large disc brake and four-piston caliper that gives you secure braking. To complete this opera, a couple of large tires were fitted: 110/90 front and 130/70 rear. Wheel diameter increased also, to a whopping 12.0 inches.

Another problem with scooters that Yamaha's engineers attempted to solve was wind blast on the rider. They've redesigned the entire bodywork, and you can see the results in the picture. It looks attractive enough, and reminds one of the front side of touring bikes like the BMW R1100 RT, and offers good protection to wind and rain. The similarity to a BMW is not limited to apperance. Considering the stated maximum speed (more than 126 Km/h), you'll be able to do some short touring, also. A trip of around 400 Km in one day would not be out of the question. There are several other cool features included with this scooter too, such as the seat, which opens toward the front and is held open by a hydraulic cylinder.

Below are the engine specifications. Yamaha, in this case, hasn't presented anything innovative. They've preferred to stay with a traditional 4-stroke liquid-cooled single that should provide reduced service intervals. Of course, the robustness of the transmission system needs testing - a critical area in this kind of machine, especially when power is considerable.

Third Generation Scooters
image3 Yamaha is moving scooters forward to a new generation. As in the computer world, where as soon as a new machine is presented to public it's immediately replaced by the next model, we want to try and define the requirements for the third generation scooter:

* Increasing wheel diameter to more than 15 inches (better 16 inch)
* Increasing the frame's torsional strength
* Increasing the diameter of the front fork
* Increasing the power and displacement of the engine (and of course the torque too)
* Increased power may cause some problems to the transmission system, so it might be necessary to devise a new system like the electronic/hydraulic sequential gear change system used in F1 racing and in some Porsche production models.
* Adding a rear disc brake
* Refining the wind/rain protection and the CX.

With all of the above items incorporated into the next generation scooter, you would have a machine with good ride feeling, a satisfying cruise speed (around 140 Km/h), and good speed performance (max speed greater than 160 Km/h, quick acceleration, etc.). We hope another manufacturer would soon enter the challenge, which would stimulate competition, and help shorten the arrival time of the ultimate Third Generation Scooter.
